Lunns Jewellers commissioned Digi Sign to create four bespoke digital displays for its premium retail environment in Lunns Arcade, Belfast.
Standard commercial screen sizes would not work for the existing architectural openings, so Digi Sign developed custom ultra-stretched LCD displays specifically around the dimensions of the original frames.
Each display was installed behind safety tempered glass within the existing doors, allowing the digital signage to become part of the architecture rather than requiring the surrounding finishes to be altered.
The four screens are managed using Digi Sign's own ScreenZeno digital signage CMS software.
The challenge
Premium retail environments demand more from digital signage than simply mounting a television on a wall.
At Lunns Jewellers, the available display positions were already defined by existing architectural frames and doors.
The proportions were unusually tall and narrow and did not correspond with standard commercial LCD screen sizes.
Changing the surrounding finishes to suit conventional screens would have compromised the appearance of the installation.
The requirement was therefore to design the digital displays around the building rather than redesign the building around the displays.
Four custom ultra-stretched LCD displays
Digi Sign produced four bespoke ultra-stretched LCD displays specifically for the existing openings.
The unusual portrait format provides an ideal digital canvas for luxury watch imagery, branded campaigns and promotional content.
Because the LCD dimensions were developed around the available space, the finished screens sit naturally within the original surrounds.
This creates a much more integrated appearance than would have been possible using a conventional 16:9 commercial display.
Safety tempered glass
The screens were installed behind safety tempered glass within the existing doors.
This provides protection for the LCD panels while maintaining the clean finished appearance required within a premium retail environment.
The result is a digital installation that looks as though it was designed as part of the original shop architecture rather than added afterwards.
Bespoke digital signage engineering
This project is a good example of why digital signage cannot always be approached as an off-the-shelf product.
Standard LCD screens work well for many applications, but retail architecture, shopfitting and existing display furniture can create unusual dimensions where conventional products simply will not fit.
Digi Sign can design bespoke LCD solutions around these requirements.
That means the size and format of the digital display can be determined by the space available, the viewing position and the visual objective of the project.
Managed using ScreenZeno
All four displays are managed using ScreenZeno, Digi Sign's digital signage content management software.
ScreenZeno allows digital content to be remotely managed and updated without having to physically access each screen.
Promotional campaigns, luxury watch imagery and other digital content can be changed as required while the displays remain permanently integrated within the existing frames.
For a premium retail environment where campaigns and products change regularly, this provides a much more flexible solution than printed graphics.
Digital signage for premium retail
Luxury retail requires technology to complement the environment rather than dominate it.
Screen dimensions, mounting methods, brightness, content and surrounding finishes all need to work together.
The Lunns project demonstrates how custom LCD technology can be integrated into an existing high-end retail environment while maintaining the character of the original architecture.
The result
Lunns Jewellers now has four bespoke ultra-stretched LCD displays integrated into the existing surrounds within Lunns Arcade.
The screens provide a modern digital platform for high-quality promotional content while retaining the premium appearance of the retail environment.
By combining custom LCD engineering, safety tempered glass and ScreenZeno CMS software, Digi Sign delivered a solution designed specifically around the site rather than compromising with standard screen dimensions.
Need a screen made to fit an unusual space?
Not every digital signage project fits a standard 43-inch, 55-inch or 65-inch display.
Digi Sign designs bespoke LCD and LED solutions for unusual dimensions, existing shopfitting and specialist architectural applications throughout Northern Ireland, Ireland and the UK.
If the space dictates the screen size, we can design the digital signage around it.
