Digital menu boards replace printed price boards with commercial screens that can be updated without reprinting menus every time a price, product or promotion changes.
For takeaways, restaurants, cafés and quick-service businesses, that makes them one of the most practical forms of digital signage.
What is a digital menu board?
A digital menu board is normally a commercial screen mounted above or behind a counter and used to display products, prices, offers and brand content.
Our Network Digital Menu Boards are designed specifically for this type of application and are available in common sizes.
How many screens do I need?
That depends on the menu.
A small takeaway might use three screens. A larger restaurant or fast-food counter may need six, eight or more.
The best approach is to divide the menu logically rather than squeeze everything onto too few screens.
Typical sections might include:
- main meals
- burgers
- sides
- drinks
- meal deals
- desserts
- promotional content
What size should menu screens be?
We consider viewing distance, mounting height and how much information must be readable.
43-inch and 50-inch displays are common, but larger counters can benefit from 55-inch or larger formats.
For bigger individual feature screens, 4K Large Format Commercial Displays can also be suitable.
Can menu prices be updated remotely?
Yes. Networked content management lets staff change pricing and offers without visiting each screen with a USB stick.
This is especially useful for businesses with multiple branches.
Can breakfast and evening menus change automatically?
Yes. Scheduling allows different content to appear at different times of day.
A café could automatically switch from breakfast to lunch. A takeaway could promote a midweek offer during quieter periods and return to the standard menu later.
Should I use televisions?
For a business running screens throughout opening hours, we recommend commercial displays rather than domestic televisions.
Commercial models are designed around longer operating hours, mounting flexibility and dependable signage use.
How should the menus be designed?
The biggest mistake is trying to show too much.
Good digital menus need:
- clear product groups
- readable prices
- strong contrast
- limited animation
- enough display time
- consistent branding
Digital does not mean every element needs to move.
What about installation?
Screen alignment matters. Multiple screens should look like one coordinated menu system rather than a row of unrelated televisions.
We plan mounting, cable routes, network access and screen spacing before installation.
Can Digi Sign design the menu content?
Yes. Content design can be included depending on the project. We can create the initial layout and then train your team to make routine updates.
Is digital worth it for a small takeaway?
Often, yes, particularly if prices and offers change regularly.
The value is not only visual impact. It is the ability to update the menu quickly without printing a new set of boards.
If you are planning a menu-board project, send us a photograph of the counter, approximate width and the current menu. We can recommend the number and size of screens and how the content should be divided.
Do all menu boards need the same network?
For the synchronisation feature on our Network Digital Menu Boards, the screens need to share the same network. Remote updates, schedules and synchronised playback are different requirements. We confirm all three when selecting the software and player setup.
What should the installed quotation cover?
Ask for the screen models and quantity, mounts, alignment, cable routes, network setup, software, commissioning and initial menu design. Any recurring software charges should be identified separately. The final screen count should follow a readable menu layout.
A local menu-board example
At Florentines in Banbridge, Digi Sign installed eight LCD menu screens in 43 to 55-inch sizes. The project included editable menu templates, with logo and menu design by Zoe. It shows how screen selection, layout and content work together.
Plan a menu-board installation. Send your current menu, counter photograph and approximate counter width.
